How Various Rehab Clinics Work

The journey of a person from being an addict to a sober person is always an uphill task. It is often a transition where one can take all the help they can get. It is often a path one cannot walk alone. The person always requires commitment and dedication so that they do not fall back into the trap of addiction.

However, one cannot measure the rewards of becoming clean and staying clean in words. Not just does the affected person benefit but everyone around them will also benefit greatly from it. It all begins with small steps, but always ensure the steps move forward, for more details visit

A Rehab Clinic is one such place that provides an individual with all the help they need. Though different types of rehab clinics have different approaches, they can mainly be classified to the basic key elements which include:

  • Intake
  • Detoxification
  • Rehabilitation
  • Ongoing Recovery

Considering there are various rehabilitation clinics that work on different principles, choosing the one that suits individual needs is vital. How well a person does during the rehabilitation depends greatly on which rehab clinic they go. And so, a person can ask as many questions about the rehab clinic and its approach and can enroll in the ones that are best suited for their needs.

Often a person does not participate in a rehab clinic voluntarily and are occasionally enforced to, whether by the court or affected family members.

The intake also involves the rehab clinic getting to know all the details about the person’s addiction, personal history, and all other relevant details. A rehab clinic may also require the individual to undergo certain screening tests. This is mostly to determine how far and deep rooted is the person’s addiction, the rehab clinic will be able to help you, and how they can tailor a course of rehabilitation for that particular individual.

This is the most crucial stage of any rehabilitation procedure, especially in drug and alcohol addiction. In detoxification, the person has weaned off any traces of the addictive component. This is one of the toughest stages, occasionally medication is administered to people to ease out the withdrawal symptoms.

How well a person does during a detox procedure depends upon factors like:

  • A person’s individual body metabolism and their mental strength.
  • What was the dosage of the addictive material used by the person?
  • For how long has the person been using the addictive material
  • If there is presence or absence of any other addition or peculiar factors involved.

Detoxification is generally considered an extremely safe process; however, the rehab clinic must keep an eye on the withdrawal symptoms which sometimes may get beyond control. Some of the commonly seen withdrawal symptoms seen during detoxification include:

  • Depression – The severity may vary from one individual to another
  • Concentration
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Extreme anger or rage
  • Insomnia
  • Running nose
  • Perspiration
  • Nausea
  • Cramps in stomach
  • Trembling of limbs
  • Headaches
  • Seizures
  • Stroke
  • Hallucination
  • Heart Attack etc.

Care must be taken to ensure the withdrawal symptoms do not give rise to any other parallel problems.

After having successfully endured the detoxification procedure, the affected person already starts feeling better about themselves. They then move forward on the path to recovery. It is during rehabilitation that the person is finally free of any substance addiction and now is the procedure where the person must work towards not falling back into the old habits.

It is during this time that an individual addresses the core problems and how and why they got addicted to the substance. There are various therapies involved to follow this:

Individual therapy:

This involves personal assessment and introspection. The person is provoked to think and assess when and why they began using the substance. They are taught strategies as to how they must cope with pressures and avoid all scope of relapse.

Group Therapy

In this way, a group of people suffering from common addiction meets together to discuss their problems and work out probable solutions for them all.

Family Therapy

The family plays a vital role when they explain the importance of the person in their lives. They highlight how and why they faced the problems and provide all the support to prevent relapse.

Ongoing Recover:

This is a continuous procedure where the person is constantly working towards staying strong and not succumbing to any temptation. The support of loved ones and the person’s own determination proves its worth.
